The Touraine appellation d'origine contrôlée (AOC) is found in the central Loire river valley and is known for producing Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc. As a close neighbor to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fume, Touraine produces wonderful examples of Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc at great value.

The Touraine from Chais Saint-Laurent offers fantastic value while delivering typical characteristics. The Touraine opens with a very light straw color with hints of green, indicating its cool-climate origin. The nose offers citrus, hints of grapefruit, and a mild vegetal grassiness that can only be described as English peas. On the palate the wine is light and crisp with racy acidity and a piercing finish.  Pair this Sauvignon Blanc with goat’s cheese, asparagus, vegetarian dishes, spicy Chinese food, white fish with lemon, ceviche, and just about anything with a sharp citrus component.

2011 Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc

This beautiful winery featuring a gorgeous lavender garden is set in Bennett Valley, Sonoma, California.  “Bennett Valley is as unique as its three mountains – Sonoma, Bennett and Taylor – that capture fog and a cool air stream from the Pacific Ocean, making the temperature profile similar to that of the Russian River Valley. This cooling effect, called the Petaluma Wind Gap, produces a long growing season that’s ideal for grapevines, allowing them to be unhurried, yet hard-working.” – Matanza’s Creek Winery. This Sauvignon Blanc expresses the grape's natural aromatics, an intensely perfumed fresh bouquet of lime, bright pink grapefruit and lemon thyme. Texture was added to the palate by aging a small percentage in fine grain French oak. There are hints of green melon, pear and papaya on the palate. A medium bodied, and fresh food-friendly wine.

Ponga Sauvignon Blanc

This Sauvignon Blanc is a classic representation of the highly aromatic and pleasant whites being made in the Marlborough area.  The unmistakable aroma of fresh grapefruit is immediately identifiable as are aromas of fresh capsicum, nectarine, and lime.  The palate offers a zingy acidity reminiscent of fresh, tart citrus fruit.  The light palate and vibrant acid make this a great mouthwatering aperitif, or a perfect companion to light seafood dressed in lemon, salad with goat’s cheese, and lemon-scented chicken. $12.99

Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2010

"This is a slighty grassy, lemon blossom and citrusy Sauvignon blanc, with a rush of melony goodness on the palate. Medium-bodied, this wine has good texture AND acidity, which would come as no surprise if you knew the wine's source. Banshee gets 98% of the fruit from one of the top three Sauvignon Blanc producers in the Napa Valley. Try this with fresh-shucked oysters, a lobster boil or even a Chinese chicken salad." - K&L 16.99
