Scholium Project 'The Gardens of Babylon"
''The wine is not the tannic monster that is has been in the past. It is much more subtle, elegant, and fresh. In some ways, it is most marked by the Cinsault-- the smallest component in the blend. You might even say that the wine is "lovely" and mean something wholly good.'' Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Carignon, Syrah $34.99
Château de Ségriès 'Lirac'
This wine has become a tried and true favorite here at Amendment XXI. Its spicy dark fruits work perfectly with its robust earthy tone. As the nights get colder, this hearty wine will surely warm you up. The Lirac would pair wonderfully with lamb, osso bucco or rustic beef dishes. "More serious, structured, and meaty is the 2009 Lirac Cuvee Reservee. Fifty percent Grenache, 30% Syrah and the rest Cinsault, Mourvedre and Carignan, this has more earthy, foresty notes, an opaque ruby/purple color, hints of incense, blue and black fruits, medium body and light to moderate tannin in the finish. It is just becoming drinkable yet should age reasonably well for 5-7 years. The new releases from proprietor Henri de Lanzac are all impressive."- Robert Parker 88 pts $19.99
