A few of our favorites...
Fetish 'The V Spot' Viognier
This Viognier, from arguably Australia’s most important wine growing region, delivers a slight hint of petrol that sneaks past the lush peach aromas. The texture is rich, full, and luscious with a heavy weight on the palate. You’ll sense only the faintest touch of oak. Try this wine with Asian dishes that incorporate spice and heat. It’s also a perfect match for sushi and sashimi with wasabi. The Wine Advocate awarded this wine 90 points.
Berger Grüner Veltliner 2009
The Governor of California may be Austria's most popular export, but Grüner Veltliner (GROO-ner FELT-lih-ner) is by far this country's most widely planted grape varietal. This white is pale yellow in color, crisp, and light to medium bodied. Your nose will detect a hint of spice and just a touch of toast. Put on your lederhosen and grab a plate of veal bratwurst and sauerkraut!
Upslope Pale Ale
Another home-grown craft brewery out of Boulder, Colorado, brings us this stellar Pale Ale. Voted best Pale Ale in America by Maxim magazine, Upslope's version of this British classic is their signature beer. "It’s refreshing characteristics, and signature dry finish, blends smooth malt flavors with a unique spicy hop bitterness. This will be the “go to” beer on any camping trip, fishing excursion or music festival."
Leo's Wine Pick of the Month:
Anciano Tempranillo 2000
What a find! Have you ever bought a bottle of red with the intention of laying it down for ten years? It never makes it, does it? You're in luck. This Spanish Tempranillo has been aged for you. Born in 2000, this exquisite red already has 10 years of barrel and bottle aging on it and it's drinking superbly! Crimson red in color, this Tempranillo offers hints of leather, vanilla, spice, and cigar box. The tannins have softened over the years and notes of licorice and coffee delight the palate. The Wine Advocate awarded this wine 90 points. All this for only $13.99!

Hospitality industry professional Leo Bortolotto has worked in the realm of fine wine and food for more than a decade. He spent several years in Europe learning the finer points of pairing European cuisine with the ideal complement of wine. He shared his passion for the culture by leading rafts of tourists in exploring renown and rare Italian wineries. Leo’s decision to relocate to his adopted home of Denver, Colorado was with the intention of realizing his vision for an eclectic and customer-focused wine boutique. This venture, a retail wine shop in the Lower Highland community of downtown Denver, is a journey every wine lover must make.
What's in a name?
"I think this would be a good time for a beer."
–Franklin D. Roosevelt upon signing an amendment to the Volstead Act, paving the way to the repeal of Prohibition.
On December 5th, 1933, the 73rd Congress of the United States ratified the 21st Amendment, thereby repealing 13 long and dry years of Prohibition. The 21st Amendment allowed the citizens of the United States to once again enjoy the manufacture, sale, and consumption of alcoholic beverages. Wine drinkers and beer lovers alike can celebrate this momentous time in our shared history by purchasing and consuming a fine bottle of wine or a craft beer at the eponymous Amendment XXI.
About our neighborhood
In 1859, the same year as the Pikes Peak Gold Rush, a community sprang up west of the South Platte River called “Highland.” The Rocky Mountain News noted “no more handsome location for residences can be found than on the highlands of Highland, on the opposite side of the river from and overlooking Auraria and Denver.” Highlands prided itself on its clean air, beautiful gardens and tree-lined streets and, in particular, its high moral standards. The required fee of $5,000 to obtain a town of Highlands liquor license meant there wasn't a single bar in the entire neighborhood.
Redevelopment of the Central Platte Valley in the late 1990s and early 2000s saw Highland's fortunes rise again. Made more accessible to downtown with the construction of the Millennium and Platte River bridges and the Highland Bridge completed in 2006, Highlands is a thriving neighborhood with some of the city’s top-ranked dining and retail intermingled with beautifully remodeled original homes and stunning modern loft architecture.
